First and foremost, I am happy to see another Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. With the ingauration of Barack Obama for his second term here, I’m particularly proud and thrilled that it fell on this day. King would be proud to see the progress we’ve made and perhaps even disheartened at the distance we still have to go. Today, let’s honor his memory by finding out more about King, taking his lessons with us by participating in a day of service, which coincide with the four major themes of Dr. Kings teachings: strengthen communities, empower individuals, bridge barriers, and create solutions. Let’s carry this with us not just for one day in January, but every day.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
